Heritage School

Lately, I have been going to Heritage School, a sort of summer camp held at the Headquarters House in Fayetteville, five hours a day, for five days. Heritage School is a fun experience to learn more about history, particularly 1850s-60s. This year, we are studying Matilda and Jonas Tebbetts, one of the families that have lived in the Headquarters House before it was sold to the Washington Historical Society.

We have learned a lot, including tatting (lace making), made a working telegraph machine, plein air painting, and all while dressing up in historical dresses, including hoops for the girls.

I am also looking forward to the quiz bowl, where we will review what we have learned, in a game show format, and the elegant ball, with lots of historical dances such as The Virginia Reel, Duck Soup, The Gay Gordon, Jefferson's Waterwheel, and others.  I love living history!
